First Beach Trip

We took Lynlee on her first road trip to the beach.  Don’t think she loved the road trip part as much as she loved the beach part.  It was a learning experience for mom and dad as well. Lynlee loved the beach, the water, the sand, the waves and the sun.  Mommy doesn’t love the sand so much so it was a growing experience for me as well.  She played in her baby pool and we would take her into the ocean for a little at a time.

"mom what is this stuff"

She was so happy her duck came to the beach with  us!

Just relaxin

Things we learned….
1. STOP more often to let her stretch and get out of the car seat.
She is such a good sleeper in the car, we thought she would do great but apparently she had a different idea.  We learned this after driving an hour with her crying in the back, mommy singing, daddy finding static on the radio so that we could mimic her sound machine, etc.  We pulled over, got her out for 10 minutes, put her back in and she fell asleep within 5 minutes of being back on the road.  That’s when we said to each other, why didn’t we try that an hour ago.  Needless to say, on the way back, LOTS OF STOPPING!! J

2. Get out to the beach early early in the morning.
We were trying to work around her eating and napping.  It seemed to do us better when we started very early and then came in for lunch.  Unfortunately we also had to work around a fever so she couldn't stay out too long at a time.  That leads me to my #3 lesson learned

3.
Have a crisis plan
Doctor’s numbers in the area you are traveling, Address of the nearest urgent care, phone and address of nearest pharmacy you want to use, and a plan with your child’s doctor for if they get sick.
We took Lynlee to the Dr the Friday before we left because she had a runny nose and I wanted to make sure she wasn’t sick since we would be out of town.  Diagnosis was she is fine just a small cold.  One would think that should reassure me.  However, once arriving at the beach, she spiked a fever.  I gave her Tylenol thinking that was what I should do as we take it when we have a fever.  Long story short, she kept a fever of 100-102 the entire week, I talked with her dr office every day and called on call one night, and we took a trip to see the urgent care dr at the beach.  Everyone kept telling us her ears are fine, she looks great, just a fever virus or a cold.  I would have complied with that diagnosis except for my little girl’s eye was oozing green stuff, swollen shut, she was fussy which isn’t her personality, and she kept the horrible fever all week.  Her fever went up to a 102 so I called her dr once again.  He decided he would call in an antibiotic just in case she had a bacteria infection, that or he was just tired of me calling.  Whatever it was I was thankful and it began to help.  Then……we scheduled an appointment to see her doctor the day we got home.  At the time we saw her doctor she had been on the antibiotic 4 days.  He took one look in her ears and said……she had a DOUBLE EAR INFECTION!  WHAT! He said it most likely started the day after we saw the urgent care doctor and the antibiotic wasn’t even helping her.  I felt so bad.  He put us on another antibiotic and increased the dose.  She has completed that today and seems to be feeling somewhat better.

My life lessons to you are always trust the mother’s instinct because we know our children the best and PRAY each day for your children.  God definitely watched over her.

Overrall a great first trip!
